With Millenials and Gen-Z calling for more values-driven companies – eliminating paper and single-use plastics is one of the biggest steps a brand can take to make a bold statement and win the trust of modern consumers. Whilst it may seem like this is an impossible task, there’s actually a surprising variety of eco-friendly merchandise products available to help brands achieve this. In this article, we round-up 4 of the quirkiest. We’ll bet you’d never have guessed what they were made from if we hadn’t told you!

Apple Peel Notebook

We’re no strangers to expressing our fondness for the classic branded notebook – while digital equivalents for phones, tablets and laptops exist, you can’t beat the feeling of putting pen to paper. The problem for eco-friendly brands, however, paper notebooks are sustainable but their covers sometimes are not . Fortunately, there’s plenty of sustainable options now available for brands who aren’t ready to give up their notebooks. The pictured image is made using sustainable apple peel – but there’s a limestone version available too!

Corn Cup

PLA – a plastic substitute made from corn – is fast becoming a go-to alternative to plastic because it’s both sustainable and biodegradable. So, if you’re looking for new ways to reduce single-use plastics within your business, “corn cups” are a great alternative to consider. Or if that’s not your cup of tea (pardon the pun, ahem!) you could also consider bamboo cups. Like corn cups, they’re sustainable, biodegradable and reusable.

Wheat Pen

Plastic ballpoints and biros might be convenient, especially for brands that need to provide large volumes of stationery to their teams without blowing the budget, but they’re not very sustainable. However, if you’re concerned the pens in your stationery cupboard are no longer in tune with your businesses eco-friendly values, there are alternatives. While the image above showcases our wheat ballpoints, there’s plenty of other options available, with source materials including plastic-bottles and even recycled money. Talk about putting your money where your mouth is!

Paper Lanyard

Traditionally made from materials such as nylon and polyester, lanyards are one of those office staples we don’t often think of as potentially harmful for the planet. But, the truth is, they’re not biodegradable or sustainable – and that could conflict with your businesses eco-friendly values. The example above, however, has been made using eco-friendly recycled paper – both sustainable and biodegradable, it’s the perfect substitute.
